How we research, write, check and correct everything on Ageculator.

Ageculator’s calculators and guides are only useful if you can trust them. This page explains how we make sure you can.

Who writes our content

All content on Ageculator is written and maintained by the Ageculator Team and published under the team name rather than individual bylines. Every page shows when it was last updated, and every guide lists the sources it relies on.

How we write

We write for people, not search engines: plain English, short answers first and detail after, and no padding. We explain the reasoning behind a result rather than just stating it, and when a question has more than one accepted answer, such as how 29 February birthdays are counted, we say so and explain the options.

Sources we rely on

We base factual claims on the most authoritative sources we can find:

  • Official sources: legislation, government departments and statistics agencies.
  • Research: peer-reviewed studies, cited by title and journal.
  • Recognised organisations: professional and standards bodies, such as veterinary associations and the publishers of software we describe.

Each guide links to its sources at the end, and facts that change over time, such as legal and pension ages, are dated in the text.

How we check calculations

Every number in our calculators comes from code that is checked by an automated test suite covering normal dates and known edge cases, such as leap years, 29 February birthdays, month ends, daylight saving changes and dates centuries apart. The worked examples in our guides are generated by the same code that powers the calculators, so the explanations and the tools can’t drift apart. Our methodology documents every rule.

Use of AI tools

Some of our content is drafted with the help of AI writing tools. Before publication, the Ageculator Team reviews each page against its cited sources. AI tools never decide what a calculator outputs: results come only from our tested code.

Keeping content up to date

We review pages when their sources change, and we aim to review pages with time-sensitive facts, such as legal ages and pension ages, at least once a year. The “last updated” date changes only when we make a meaningful change to the content.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please email hello@ageculator.com with the page and, if possible, a source. We check every report. When we confirm a mistake, we correct it promptly and update the page’s date; if the correction is significant, we say what changed.

Independence

We don’t publish sponsored content or accept payment for links or coverage. If we show advertising in the future, it will be clearly labelled and kept separate from our content, and advertisers will have no say in what we write or how our calculators work.

Some guides touch on health, law or money, such as biological age, legal ages and retirement ages. These guides are general information, not professional advice. For decisions about your own situation, consult a qualified professional or the official body responsible.
