Anyone born between these dates is that age on the date you chose.
Enter an age to find the birth year. Say whether the birthday has happened yet this year and you’ll get one exact year.

Subtract the age from the current year. If the person hasn’t had their birthday yet this year, subtract one more. That’s all the calculator does when you tell it whether the birthday has passed:
If you’re not sure, choose “Not sure” and you’ll see both possible years.
People who are exactly the same age today were born across a whole year of dates, and that span always crosses a New Year. On 29 October 2026, everyone aged 31 was born between 30 October 1994 and 29 October 1995. Some of those dates are in 1994 and some in 1995. Knowing whether the birthday has passed tells you which side of that New Year they fall on.
The calculator shows this full range in the Possible birth dates card. The latest possible date is exactly 31 years before the chosen day: anyone born then has their 31st birthday on that day. The earliest is the day after the 32nd birthday would have fallen.
Set Age on to any date to work backwards from an age recorded on that day. This is handy for:
Remember that ages in old records aren’t always accurate: people sometimes rounded their age or didn’t know it exactly, so treat the result as a starting point for research.
This calculator uses the international way of counting age, where you’re 0 at birth and a year older on each birthday. Some cultures have traditionally counted differently. Under the traditional Korean system, for example, everyone was 1 at birth and a year older every 1 January. To turn a traditional Korean age into a birth year, subtract it from the current year and add one. Our guide to how age is counted around the world explains these systems.
Once you know the year, the About that year card shows the generation it belongs to, whether it was a leap year, and its Chinese zodiac animal. The animal changes at Lunar New Year, not 1 January, so people born in January or early February may belong to the previous year’s animal. For the full picture, enter an exact date of birth in the zodiac sign calculator or the main age calculator.

Subtract your age from the current year. If you haven’t had your birthday yet this year, subtract one more. For example, someone who is 25 in 2026 was born in 2001 if they’ve had their birthday, or in 2000 if it’s still to come.
Because an age alone isn’t enough. People who are the same age today were born across a 12-month span that crosses a New Year. Tell the calculator whether the birthday has happened yet this year and it narrows the answer to one year.
No, only a range. On any given day, everyone who is, say, 31 was born within the same 365 or 366 days. The calculator shows the earliest and latest possible birth dates.
Under the traditional Korean system everyone is 1 at birth and gets a year older every 1 January, so your birth year is the current year minus your Korean age, plus one. South Korea switched to international age for most official uses in June 2023; see our guide to how age is counted around the world.
Old records such as census returns often give a person’s age on a particular date instead of a birth date. Enter that age and set Age on to the record’s date to see the range of birth dates it implies.
